September 11th

On September 11, 2001 the world changed. Evil revealed itself in the skies over America, and left its scars in Pennsylvania, at the World Trade Center, and at the Pentagon. On that day nine years ago, the world reeled in shock and horror at the unprecedented villainy which claimed so many lives. On that day of ultimate treachery, the worst of mankind stood in stark contrast with the best. On that day when fanatics and zealots unleashed their attacks, heroes and champions rushed to the fore, and ran toward the flames, into the smoke, and toward those in need. Many died saving the victims of these attacks, and many still deal with the abuse their bodies took that day.

Today, their legacy and memory is carried on around the world. In America’s ports and transportation hubs, at the borders, and on the sea, men and woman still serve freedom and protect this nation from attack. Overseas, in Afghanistan, Iraq, and around the globe American and allied troops fight in defense of freedom; while once-shattered nations are rebuilt around them.

September 11, 2001 was a day of tragedy, terror and fear. September 11, 2010 should be a day of remembrance, and mourning; but also a day of thanks, and one where we must remember all those who perished in harms way, those who worked to save them, and all those who are working to create a world where there will never be another day like September 11, 2001.
